1873 Romadka Bros. Rare and Ornate Antique Travel Trunk
This trunk is absolutely stunning! This trunk was produced by the Romadka Bros. Trunk & Bag Co. very near 1873. It features 11, grooved hardwood slats tipped with sheet iron and secured with large head saddle nails. The original, worn/damaged, hand tooled leather covering was removed and the beautiful white Pine was reveled. The slats are protected with 18, cast iron 1870 patent slat clamps. The solid brass lock with spring loaded keyhole cover, works great and a key is included. The massive, protruding, cast iron casters are exclusive to Romadka trunks, and are quite rare. (I have only seen 2 trunks with these, and I own the other) This beauty has over 1700 nails the secure the iron corners, and center band, and are also used to produce several unique nail designs. Each nail was cleaned, clear coated, then masked for painting. The unique 1873 patent Romadka latches, and 1873 Romadka patent lid stay were only used on Romadka's own trunks. The stitched leather lid lifter, and handles are exact reproductions of the originals. The interior is lined with cotton fabric and the whole interior lid section was saved from the original. The tray is done in paper that was commonly used by Romadka. I printed this paper from scanned images of other Romadka trunks. The hat box, and set up tray both have latching covers. The trunk measures 34” long, 22” wide, and 26” high. Free shipping. Thank you.
